I am delighted to receive the Professor Sir Richard Brook Prize 2017 for the best ceramics PhD in the UK. It is an absolute honour to have my work in the active metal brazing of advanced ceramics recognised by Morgan Advanced Materials plc, the pioneers of this very field and other related fields.
Brook Prize Winner: Tahsin Ali Kassam
Dr. Tahsin Ali Kassam was selected as the winner of the 2017 Sir Richard Brook prize by the members of CASC Consortium (Asahi, John Crane, Morgan Advanced Materials and SAFRAN). As previous years, the members of the Consortium stated that the work submitted by all the candidates was impressive and had a really difficult time choosing the winner. He was selected, among other candidates, due to the high standards of his work, as said by one of the external examiners.
He did his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Hari Babu Nadendla at Brunel University on The Effects of Alumina Purity, TICUSIL® Braze Preform Thickness, and Post-grinding Heat Treatment on the Microstructure, Mechanical and Nanomechanical Properties of Alumina-to-Alumina Brazed Joints. The main interest of his project was to improve the ceramic-to-metal brazing process.
